Introduction

YinYangChess is a FICS client program for Pocket PC and Smartphones devices running Windows Mobile®.

FICS (Free Internet Chess Server) is a chess server where hundreds of chess players connect to and are available to play chess with you at any time. You can register (it is free) or play as a guest.

Windows Mobile® is Microsoft's operating system for Pocket PC devices and Smartphones.

What you need

A Pocket PC or a Smartphone device running Windows Mobile®. The program has been developed and tested for Windows Mobile® 5.0, but may run on other versions.
Your device must have Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 or later installed. You can find more information in the 'Download and installation' section.
You have to download and install YinYangChess in your device. Go to the 'Download and installation' section to download the program.
You do not need to register at FICS if you want to play as a guest, but registering has advantages and it is free.
You have to register at YinYangChess.com in order to use the program. You will only be asked an e-mail an a password. Go to the 'Registration' section to register.
Your Pocket PC or Smartphone device needs an Internet connection, either WiFi or GPRS or any other means of connecting to Internet. If your Internet connection passes through a firewall, take into account that port 5000 should be open for outgoing connections.

What you get

A FICS client, to play chess over the Internet with other opponents, with the following features and functionalities:

Play as guest or registered FICS user.
Seek for a game or play a match with a specific opponent.
List and manage the challenges to and from other players.
Advanced 'sought' graphic where sought games are displayed and managed.
Chess board. It can be turned. The colour of squares can be changed. It shows player's name, rating and clocks. A pop-up menu allows to send common commands used while playing (abort, takeback, adjourn, etc.). Chess piece for promoted pawns can be chosen.
Chat window to talk to opponent while playing.
Game window where the game being played is displayed in PGN format. A game is automatically saved to disk when it ends.
Form to define your formula at FICS.
Integrated 'timeseal'. Your clock will not suffer from delays in Internet communications.
English and Spanish languages available. Users can translate the program to their own language by just editting a text file.
