Download and installation

This page explains how to download and install YinYangChess in your Pocket PC or Smartphone device.

Download

You should download the file YinYangChess10300.zip (71 KB), unzip it and copy its content into whatever folder of your device you want, either into the internal memory or the external one.

The ZIP file contains four files:

YinYangChess.exe: the program itself.
Lang_ES.txt: the program's language file for Spanish.
Lang_EN.txt: the program's language file for English.
Language.txt: a copy of Lang_EN.txt and the file from which the program reads the texts.

Installation

Does my device have .Net Compact Framework 2.0 installed?. YinYangChess needs Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 or later in order to run. Some devices come with it in a ROM. If you do not know whether Compact Framework is installed in your device, have a look at the 'Windows' directory. If Compact Framework is installed, you should have the program 'cgacutil.exe'. Execute the program and a window will show you the installed version.

Getting .Net Compact Framework 2.0. If you need to install .Net Compact Framework, you can use this link or, if it is broken, go to Microsoft's home page and search for 'compact framework'.

Internet connectivity. If your Internet connection passes through a firewall, take into account that port 5000 should be open for outgoing connections.

Program's language. The program reads the text to write on the screen from the file 'Language.txt', which is a copy of 'Lang_EN.txt' after the installation. This means that the program will be in English. If you want to have the program in Spanish, copy 'Lang_ES.txt' to 'Language.txt'. You can make a copy of one of these files and translated to your own language following the instructions at the start of any of these files.

FICS. Remember that you do not need to register at FICS if you want to play as a guest, but registering has advantages and it is free.

Registration. Remember also that you must register at this site before you can use YinYangChess. You will only be asked an e-mail an a password. Go to the 'Registration' section to register.

The window of the program addapts itself to the screen resolution of the device.
The use of a chess font has been added, so that the size of chess pieces can vary according to the screen resolution.

Bug solved. It was possible to send moves to the server while not playing.

New 'Settings' tab added.
Sound can be turned on/off at any moment or while playing.

Text change in the connection tab. 'E-mail registered' instead of 'Registered to' to make it clear what to type.
After moving a piece a yellow squared is drawn around the square of both the original and destination position of the piece.
